Switzerland international Valon Behrami has joined Hamburg from Napoli, the Bundesliga club have confirmed.

The 29-year-old, who appeared in all four of his nation's matches at the World Cup this summer, has signed a three-year contract with Die Rothosen which will keep him at the Imtech Arena until 2017.

Behrami joined Napoli from Fiorentina in 2012 and made 70 appearances in all competitions for the Stadio San Paolo outfit.

However, the defensive midfielder failed to break into Napoli’s starting line-up on a regular basis last season and hence requested a transfer.

And Behrami, who counts Genoa, Lazio and West Ham United amongst his former employers, was happy after securing his move to Hamburg and branded it a “very important moment” in his career.

"Hamburg is a new experience for me and they are a great club. This is a very important moment of my career."
