Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that new signing Alexis Sanchez was one of the sharpest players in his side at the Emirates Cup.

The Chile international, who joined the Gunners from Barcelona on a four-year deal in the summer, played in both the matches for the Emirates Stadium club in the pre-season tournament.

Sanchez came on as a late substitute during Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Benfica on Saturday and played 73 minutes of his side’s 1-0 loss to Monaco the next day.

And despite Arsenal failing to win the Emirates Cup, Wenger was pleased with the 25-year-old’s start in Arsenal colours.

"Alexis was quite sharp – one of the sharpest because he was mobile and he made some good runs”, the Frenchman told Arsenal Player.

“We didn't have too many balls to feed him, he lacks a bit of sharpness to make the complete difference and he had a chance as well.

"Overall, I'm happy with his start."

Sanchez, who represented his nation at the 2014 World Cup in Chile, scored 47 goals in 141 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona.

The speedy winger also has 60 caps and 24 goals for Chile to his name.
