Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli lays the blame for the delay over Arturo Vidal's move to Manchester United at the door of Louis van Gaal.

The Red Devils are on Vidal's tail, but have taken their time twisting Juventus' arm with a big money bid, despite the midfielder being keen to continue his career at Old Trafford.

Juventus continue to adopt a "no-sale" stance in public, while conceding the will of the player will be crucial, leaving the door open for a potential departure.

And Sampaoli believes that the delay over talks comes squarely down to Van Gaal, who is not yet sure about Vidal's knee, which he injured in the World Cup prior to the country's last 16 game against Brazil.

The Chile coach, speaking to El Mercurio, addressed Vidal's situation and stalled move to Manchester United, saying "because I know that even now for example, the big hurdle that he has to overcome with regard to his move from Juventus to Manchester United, for $80m, is the doubt that Van Gaal has in terms of the improvement of Arturo's knee."

Vidal at present is at Juventus' training base in Asia, with the Italian champions playing three tour games on the continent.

It remains to be seen whether the all-action midfielder will still be with the Bianconeri when the summer transfer window slams shut.
