Hamburg have secured the signature of German international winger Nicolai Muller from Bundesliga rivals Mainz.

Muller, who joined Mainz from Franconian outfit Greuther Furth in 2011, has signed a four-year contract with HSV.

The 26-year-old made 90 appearances for Mainz, scoring 23 goals and providing 14 assists in his time at the club.

Only last year he made his international debut for Germany in a friendly against Ecuador, as a last minute substitute for Lukas Podolski.

Hamburg's CEO Dietmar Beiersdorfer has described Muller as someone who is constantly improving and believes his versatility will add a lot to the HSV squad.

"Nicolai is a player who improved constantly over recent years and is always able to reach an even higher level", Beiersdorfer was quoted as saying by FIFA.

“His versatility is going to be particularly helpful to our attack while his pace and strong shot will also help.”

Muller becomes Hamburg’s fourth new summer signing after Valon Behrami, Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Zoltan Stieber. The northern German club will hope to avoid a battle against relegation in the 2014/15 campaign after needing a Bundesliga playoff to survive in the top flight last term.
