Monaco and Liverpool are preparing to step up their interest in Inter striker Mauro Icardi.

Both clubs have money to spend and are in need of adding extra attacking firepower, something which has led them to Icardi, according to Italian daily Tuttosport.

Monaco sold James Rodriguez to Real Madrid earlier this summer, while Radamel Falcao could also follow his countryman out of the Stade Louis II exit door.

Liverpool meanwhile cashed in on Luis Suarez, selling the Uruguayan to Barcelona for £75m. And following the collapse of a deal to sign Loic Remy from QPR, are now desperately hunting a new striker.

Inter are not keen on selling Icardi, but have slapped a €30m asking price on the former Sampdoria star's head.

Icardi is thought to be open to a switch away from Inter as both Monaco and Liverpool would offer the chance to play Champions League football in the upcoming campaign.

The striker was formed in the youth ranks at Barcelona before opting to continue his development in Italy at Sampdoria.
