Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce has saluted his side's opening day win in the Championship over Blackpool, with his men claiming a comfortable 2-0 win.

Blackpool arrived at the City Ground in crisis and only able to name four substitutes following a summer of turmoil at the north west club.

Pearce's summer business paid off as Forest took the lead through Michail Antonio, a signing from Sheffield Wednesday, who struck with 25 minutes on the clock.

Chris Burke then added a second for the hosts just five minutes later as they moved into a commanding position.

And Forest never looked in any danger for the remainder of the match, seeing it out and claiming three points which left Pearce pleased, even if he felt they could have played better.

He told the BBC: "All things considered I think it was a good result and we will build on that. We play Tranmere on Tuesday, I have seen them play in pre-season and I know it will be a very tough game but hopefully we can build on today's performance.

"I thought we played very well in the first half but we tailed off in the second half, which disappointed me. I want my players to know we have to set our stall out, but there were mitigating circumstances today."

Forest's next Championship fixture sees them travel to Bolton Wanderers next Saturday.
