Standard Liege are continuing attempts to snap up Nancy attacking midfielder Jeff Louis and have been encouraged by the Haiti international turning down an offer from Celtic.

The Belgian giants announced that they would be signing Louis on Friday, only to later backtrack and admit the deal was not yet complete, with no agreement achieved with Nancy.

According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Celtic quickly contacted Louis, a player they had chased earlier this summer, to make him an offer.

But the 22-year-old knocked back the Bhoys' fresh proposal and remains keen on moving to Belgium.

Standard Liege coach Guy Luzon has been in contact with Louis to assure him that he is desperate to be able to call upon him this season, something which contributed to the refusal of Celtic's proposal.

The matter is now expected to be further discussed by Nancy and Standard Liege, with Louis wanting the move to Belgium.

The deal initially broke down when Standard Liege refused to pay a financial bonus included in the deal by Nancy.
