Record World Cup goalscorer Miroslav Klose has announced his retirement from international football after helping Germany win the World Cup.

Klose scored twice at the tournament in Brazil to surpass Ronaldo as the record goalscorer at World Cup finals and ends with total figures of 137 caps for Germany and 71 goals.



The 36-year-old has bowed out at the top and will now focus on his club career with Serie A side Lazio.

"Winning the title in Brazil was a childhood dream come true", the striker told the German FA's official site.

 


"I am happy and proud to have contributed to this big success for German football", he added.

Klose made his debut for Germany in 2001, while still at 1.FC Kaiserslautern.

He moved on to Werder Bremen in 2004, then switching to Bayern Munich in 2007.

The 36-year-old goal-poacher joined current club Lazio in 2011.
