Sampdoria have been offered the chance to sign out-of-favour Liverpool centre-back Sebastian Coates.

The Serie A outfit are looking to bolster their defensive options for the upcoming campaign and have been receiving a number of proposals, with players being offered.

And according to Sky Italia, one of the players whose name has been put forward is none other than Uruguayan defender Coates.

The centre-back missed the majority of last term with an injury and spent several months back home in Uruguay with his former club Nacional on a loan deal to build up his fitness for the World Cup.

Coates did make Uruguay's squad for the World Cup, but his chances of regular first team football at Liverpool in 2014/15 look limited.

The Reds have dipped into the market to sign centre-back Dejan Lovren from Southampton, while Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger and Mamadou Sakho are also competing for a spot in the heart of Brendan Rodgers' defence.

Coates is keen to continue in Europe however and with a Spanish passport is a realistic prospect for Sampdoria.

Developments are expected in the coming days as the Serie A side weigh up whether to move for Coates.
