Fabrizio Grillo has revealed he was in touch with Leeds United until as recently as last night before ultimately opting to remain in Italy.

The left-back, who was a free agent following a parting of the ways with financially troubled Siena earlier this summer, has opted to sign for Serie B side Pescara on a two-year deal.

However, Grillo had other options and Leeds offered the chance for him to ply his trade in England.

And the 27-year-old was in serious talks with the Elland Road outfit, before deciding that uprooting his family to move to another country was a step too far when an offer from Pescara was on the table.

"I spoke with Leeds, but for the comfort of my family I decided to stay in Italy", Grillo told Tutto Mercato.

"I was in contact with the English until 18:30 last night, but then I signed for Pescara, which I must repeat, I have always liked."

The 27-year-old, who had a prior spell outside Italy with Bulgarian giants CSKA Sofia, feels he has made a good choice in opting for Pescara.

"They are a team that have always intrigued me and stimulated me. Playing against them has always been very nice because they are a team with great fans and a great history.

"They are a healthy club, with a good project and in the end this is why I decided to sign for them."
