Leeds United president Massimo Cellino is preparing to lodge a formal bid to sign Ternana striker Mirco Antenucci, but will face opposition from Latina Calcio.

Cellino is a firm fan of Antenucci and Leeds have been linked with the Italian hitman throughout the summer. However, the club's director of football Nicola Salerno revealed last month that signing the striker is a tough task financially.

"Antenucci? The player is interesting, but a solution is difficult for economic reasons", Salerno explained.

"In Italy, salary and costs are still above average", Cellino's right hand man added.

However, according to Sky Italia, Leeds have not dropped their interest in Antenucci and Cellino is preparing to make a concrete move for the striker in the coming days.

Leeds though will face opposition for Antenucci, and from the side which recently beat them to the signature of Federico Viviani from Roma.

Serie B side Latina Calcio want to add the 29-year-old to their ranks to help push for Serie A football, but Ternana are not in the mood to part with Antenucci cheaply.

Indeed, Ternana will not consider any loan offers for the striker and are only open to an outright sale at a price they cannot refuse, something which at present places Leeds in pole position as Latina Calcio have been eyeing a loan.
