Leeds United are amongst a number of clubs who have made an enquiry about Lazio defender Diego Novaretti.

The 29-year-old Argentine had been mooted as being close to signing for Mexican side Club Leon as a replacement for Rafael Marquez, who has joined Serie A outfit Hellas Verona.

However, Club Leon's president has denied that they are chasing Novaretti and the door is open for other clubs to make a play for his signature.

According to Italian outlet LaLazioSiaMonoi, Leeds, Catania, Chievo Verona and Palermo have all lodged enquiries over the defender.

The 29-year-old, who joined Lazio just last year from Mexican side Toluca, is expected to make a firm decision over where he wants to play his football over the next week.

Novaretti started his career in his homeland with Belgrano, but was quickly snapped up by Toluca in 2009.

The Argentine landed at Lazio last summer, despite having been linked with Manchester City, penning a four-year deal with the Roman club.

He made just eleven appearances in Serie A for Lazio last season, struggling to command a spot in the first team.
