Leeds United are set to launch a push to agree a fee with Italian Serie B side Ternana for striker Mirco Antenucci.

The Yorkshire giants are keen on snapping up the prolific marksman and looked in his direction earlier this summer, only for director of football Nicola Salerno to declare the player too expensive.

However, there has been movement on Antenucci's part, following Salerno's comments over his salary being prohibitive, with the striker agreeing personal terms with Leeds, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.

There is no deal between Leeds and Ternana though, and the Serie B side have already warned that they want top dollar to release the hitman, who has also been interesting several other clubs, including Japanese outfit FC Tokyo.

Indeed, Serie A club Bologna have also been on Antenucci's tail in recent weeks, with Ternana asking for €1.5m for their attacking gem.

Ternana sporting director Vittorio Cozzella explained that: "If top clubs can lose their top-class talents to offers that can't be refused, then even Ternana could not remain unmoved in front of important deals.

"However, it is clear that an offer would need to be one which could not be refused because we have no intention of selling our attacker."

Antenucci netted 19 times in 40 Serie B games for Ternana last term, catching the eye with a series of sparkling performances.
