Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has used a weekend trip to London to speak to Tottenham Hotspur about the availability of winger Erik Lamela.

The Serie A side sold Lamela to Spurs last summer for a fee of around £30m, but the Argentine had a lacklustre debut campaign in the Premier League, with several injuries also derailing his progress.

Spurs have indicated they wish to keep Lamela, but Sabatini did not miss the opportunity afforded by a weekend trip to London to bring up Roma's former player, according to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset.

Sabatini is also thought to have spoken to Tottenham about Roma striker Mattia Destro and winger Adem Ljajic.

Lamela started Spurs' 1-0 win over West Ham in the Premier League yesterday, but was withdrawn on the hour mark, to be replaced by Lewis Holtby.

It remains to be seen if Spurs are desperate to keep hold of the Argentine, or whether a potential departure will be considered at White Hart Lane.
