Bayern Munich have been handed a blow with the news that Bastian Schweinsteiger is likely to miss the next month through injury.

Schweinsteiger picked up a knee injury during his side's tour of the United States earlier this summer and has now been ruled out for at least a month.

That means the Germany international will miss the start of the new Bundesliga campaign, while he is also likely to be out of his country's opening two internationals.

The news is another blow to Bayern Munich, who are still grappling with having lost midfielder Javi Martinez for the rest of the year.

The Spanish midfielder picked up an injury during Bayern Munich's Supercup defeat to Borussia Dortmund last week.

His injury has already caused the Bavarians to re-enter the transfer market, but it is unlikely they will look for a second player due to Schweinsteiger's absence.

Schweinsteiger played a key role last term as Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga in record time.
