Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has lauded Cesc Fabregas after the midfielder put in a man of the match performance in his side’s 3-1 win over Burnley last night.

The Spaniard, who joined the Blues from Barcelona in the summer, was involved in two of Chelsea’s three goals at Turf Moor.

After fellow summer signing Diego Costa cancelled out Scott Arfield’s opener, Fabregas set up Andre Schurrle to make it 2-1 for the Stamford Bridge outfit in the 21st minute.

Branislav Ivanovic then increased the visitors lead further by heading home Fabregas’ corner 13 minutes later.

And Mourinho, who felt the former Arsenal player deserved the man of the match award, was also impressed with the 27-year-old’s partnership with Nemanja Matic in the centre of the park.

“The team played very well but I agree with Cesc being man of the match”, he told the club’s official site.

“Him and Matic controlled the game and dictated the intensity of the game. They were choosing how to play – increase the pace, decrease the pace, play deeper, play with control.

“I know clearly the player, Cesc, [and it] is because we have spent so many years together in the same league, both here and in Spain. I know exactly what he will bring to my team.

“He is giving exactly what we need: that stability, that quick-thinking in midfield, that right decision. He brings other people in the same direction – you could feel Matic was playing different from last season.

“Everything was fantastic for the second goal: the movement, the quality of the pass, the vision, the understanding between them. It was beautiful.”
