Celtic assistant manager John Collins has stressed that the Hoops need to up their game against NK Maribor in their Champions League playoff tie.

The Scottish champions will play the away leg of their Champions League playoff tie against the Slovenian outfit tomorrow evening.

The 46-year-old said that the Bhoys need to be defensively solid tomorrow night in Slovenia as the quality in Europe is different from what they encounter in Scotland.

“I think there will be some caution”, Collins told the club’s official site.

“At the start of the game we will try and keep it tight and solid.”

“I think that’s important in Europe as you are playing against better players, sharper minds and usually sharper in the legs as well.”

Collins didn’t hide the fact that Scottish football is low on quality when it compared to the Champions League and said that Celtic need to raise their game if they hope to feature in the group stage of Europe’s elite cup competition.

“It’s a step up in level from Scottish football, with no disrespect to the other teams, but that’s the reality so we’ve got to make sure we step up our game as well.”
