AS Roma officials are poised to meet Mehdi Benatia’s agent and offer an improved contract to the Moroccan defender, as they bid to keep him amid interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

Benatia’s future in Rome has been under the spotlight throughout the summer and rumours of the defender leaving the Italian capital have refused to die down.

The Moroccan international publicly slated the club officials for broken promises and feels his performances deserve a better pay package than he is currently receiving at Roma.

Manchester United and Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for Benatia this summer and Chelsea have also paid close attention to his situation at last season's Serie A runners-up.

However, Roma are still insisting that the defender is not for sale and are ready to offer a better pay package to the 27-year-old.

Club officials are set to meet the player’s agent in the next few days to discuss terms over a new and improved contract, according to Corriere della Sera.

The Giallorossi are set to offer a new contract that will increase the defender’s pay package by more than €2m. The club are quietly confident that a new contract will be agreed with the player.

Benatia’s agent will take a look at the proposed contract from Roma and will also inform the Italians about the offers the Moroccan has from clubs across Europe.

Despite the speculation, Roma are yet to receive an official bid for the defender.
