Sergio Ramos has stressed that Real Madrid need to improve on their set-piece defending if they want to beat Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.

In last night's first leg, Atletico Madrid’s Raul Garcia scored in the 88th minute after James Rodriguez gave Real Madrid the lead in the 81st minute at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Barring the mistake that led to Los Colchoneros’ equaliser late in the match, Ramos feels Real Madrid played well last night and were the better team.

“The team performed very well and unfortunately the last few minutes made the tie more complicated for us”, the Spaniard told the club’s official site.

“1-1 perhaps didn’t do us justice after dictating the pace of the game. But the tie is still wide open and we’re going to go to the Calderon to win.”

The central defender believes that Los Blancos need to improve on their set piece defending in the second leg as Atletico Madrid are quick to take advantage of any weakness.

“A mistake on a dead-ball cost us the win, we have to work hard and try to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Real Madrid will take on Atletico Madrid in the return leg on Friday at the Vicente Calderon.
