Aston Villa have appointed Arsenal chief commercial officer Tom Fox as their new chief executive.

Fox, who was formerly with the NBA in America, has been welcomed to his new role by Villa owner Randy Lerner, who says he is flattered to appoint him to the chief executive post, believing he will bring much to Villa Park.

Aston Villa announced: "We are pleased to announce the appointment of Tom Fox as chief executive."

And Lerner, who is looking to sell the Premier League club, commented: "I was delighted and even flattered by Tom's interest in the Villa job.

"Tom’s reputation as a leader and team builder makes him, to my mind, a great fit to take our club forward."

And Fox himself is pleased to have been appointed to the role at Villa Park, believing he is joining one of the most important club sides in the English game.

"First of all I would be remiss not to thank everyone at the Arsenal for all their support over the past five years. I consider it a huge privilege to have represented the club and to have helped move it forward.

"Aston Villa has always been an important club in English football and it has a long and rich history of success at the top of the game."
