Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has saluted his side for coming from behind to beat AEL Limassol 2-1 in the first leg of their Europa League playoff tie in Cyprus this evening.

Pochettino saw his men go a goal down after just 14 minutes when Adrian Sardinero put the hosts ahead. And they headed in at half-time trailing the Cypriot outfit.

However, in the second half Spurs fought back, striking twice with goals from Roberto Soldado (74th minute) and Harry Kane (80th minute).

And Pochettino, who pointed out that Zenit St. Petersburg went down to a 1-0 defeat at the ground, was pleased with the fighting spirit shown by his side and their come-from-behind win.

"It was a tough game, the conditions were difficult and it was an important win", he told his club's site.

"We know that Zenit came here and lost 1-0 in the Champions League. It was a difficult game and I’m happy with the players. In the end it was an important win and to get another victory.

"All players played well, it’s difficult for me to say one name. [Erik] Lamela, [Nacer] Chadli and Mousa [Dembele] all made an impact and that’s important.

"I’m very pleased for Harry and Roberto, strikers always want to score and they both scored. It was good to win the game."

Spurs will again lock horns with AEL Limassol in the return leg at White Hart Lane next Thursday.
