Liverpool have ended their interest in Monaco striker Radamel Falcao as they put the finishing touches to the signing of Mario Balotelli from AC Milan.

Brendan Rodgers' men have agreed a €20m fee with Milan for the former Manchester City striker and are now in the process of discussing personal terms with his agent Mino Raiola.

Liverpool had been interested in taking Falcao on a season-long loan, with a purchase option, from Monaco.

However, their interest in the Colombian is now dead, according to RMC, as the Reds have decided Balotelli is their striking reinforcement.

Liverpool are thought to have concluded Falcao was too expensive, with Monaco wanting €15m as a loan fee, while a purchase option would have been set at €50m.

Balotelli in contrast will cost Liverpool just €20m, the same sum Milan paid Manchester City to sign the Italy international in January 2013.

If the move is completed in time, Balotelli could make his debut against his former club on Monday at the Etihad Stadium.
