Celtic boss Ronny Deila believes that in-demand defender Virgil van Dijk should remain at the club to continue his development.

The Dutchman has been linked with a move south of the border, with several English Premier League sides showing an interest in acquiring him this summer.

But Deila does not want to lose the services of a defender who has been impressive since joining Celtic from FC Groningen just last year.

And he feels the 23-year-old would be better served by remaining at Celtic Park.

"The last two weeks Virgil van Dijk has been operating at top level", Deila told a press conference.
