Bolton Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman has revealed that starlet Max Clayton is considering a move abroad due to the amount Crewe Alexandra are asking for him.

Clayton departed the struggling League One outfit at the end of last season, however due to his age, Crewe are entitled to a fee for his services unless he moves abroad.

Freedman is a firm fan of the forward's talents, but has admitted that Crewe's asking price is putting a number of clubs off signing Clayton, leading to the youngster considering heading abroad.

"Max is training with us. We like him. We're one of a few clubs far away from Crewe's valuation", he said via his club's feed.

"Max has spoken about going abroad", Freedman continued.

"I'm gutted about that because we really want to work with him."

Crewe are hoping to realise the maximum value from Clayton, but may be forced to soften their stance or risk losing the starlet for no fee at all if he heads abroad.

The Railwaymen have lost their opening three games of the League One season.
