Louis van Gaal has claimed that Manchester United have hired him because of his philosophy and he is not thinking about losing his job.

The Dutchman lost his first competitive fixture in charge of the club last Saturday against Swansea City at Old Trafford, with his team going down to a 2-1 defeat.

However, the former Ajax manager is unperturbed and said that the club are firmly behind him because they believe in his coaching philosophy.

He also added that he is not concerned about losing his job at Old Trafford after just one league match.

"The club have hired me because of my philosophy, not because I am nice”, Van Gaal said in a press conference, via his club's site.

“Although, I am.

“They have not hired me to fire me.”

Van Gaal also bemoaned the fickle nature of the football world and said in two weeks' time perceptions about him have changed dramatically.

"Two weeks ago I was the king of Manchester. Now I am the devil. It is the football world."

Van Gaal will look to bounce back from the opening day defeat when he prepares the Red Devils to take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this Sunday.
