Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes that the club's new signing Marcos Rojo needs to bring a measure of control to his game.

The Red Devils snapped up the Argentina international defender from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon earlier this week, paying £16m for the 24-year-old.

Van Gaal took a close look at Rojo during the World Cup and was pleased with what he saw – but the man who coached the Netherlands to third place in Brazil believes the defender must calm down.

"He has to be aggressive in the right moment", Van Gaal was quoted as saying by ITV.

"When I have to say something about him that I have to criticise, that is it – he has to control himself in every moment.

"He can improve in that and maybe I can help him", Van Gaal added.

The 24-year-old collected 21 yellow cards and four red cards over the course of 49 league appearances for Sporting Lisbon.

Rojo will not be able to feature against Sunderland in Manchester United's Premier League clash this weekend though, with the Argentine not yet having received his work permit.
