Modibo Maiga is set to end his West Ham nightmare by joining Ligue 1 side Metz on a season-long loan deal.

Metz recently sold striker Diafra Sakho to the Hammers and are poised to snap up former Sochaux hitman Maiga to replace last season's joint top scorer in Ligue 2.

The French side will also have an option included in the loan to make Maiga's stay permanent should he impress, with €3m the sum which will be needed to take the 26-year-old from West Ham, according to L'Equipe.

The Mali international moved to West Ham from Sochaux in 2012, penning a four-year contract.

He has struggled to make the grade in England however and spent the last half of last season on loan at QPR.

He returned to West Ham earlier this summer, but is surplus to requirements at the club.

Maiga also counts French outfit Le Mans amongst his former clubs, having joined the side in 2007 from Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca.
