Real Madrid Castilla coach Zinedine Zidane is bidding to raid Manchester United for the club's young Uruguayan defender Guillermo Varela.

Manchester United snapped up the 21-year-old full-back from Penarol last year, but Varela has found first team chances limited at Old Trafford.

France legend Zidane is a firm fan of the Uruguayan starlet and believes he would be well received at Real Madrid.

Now the former midfielder is aiming to sign Varela on a season-long loan deal, with a purchase option included and set at €5m, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

Manchester United are aware of Real Madrid's interest in the young defender and are currently considering their position.
