Liverpool may well ship out a number of fringe players before the transfer window slams shut, manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted.

Last season's Premier League runners-up have been active in this summer's window, bringing in a number of players to increase their squad depth in a season of Champions League football.

But the door is open for several stars to head for pastures new, Rodgers has explained, with players now clearly knowing their position within the squad and likelihood of playing regular first team football over the course of the campaign.

Asked about players leaving, Rodgers told a press conference this afternoon: "I think we have a number of players who will probably look and see where their opportunities lie.

"Every player is clear on where I see them, in terms of in the squad.

"And we'll see by the end of August if opportunities come for players to move on if they want to do that", the Northern Irishman concluded.

Liverpool accepted a bid from Sunderland for forward Fabio Borini earlier this summer, but the Italian is still at Anfield, having not yet decided whether to head to the Stadium of Light.

The Reds did recently offload defender Martin Kelly however, with the England international joining Crystal Palace for a fee of around £1.5m.
