Napoli coach Rafael Benitez has identified wantaway Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira as his dream acquisition.

The Serie A outfit are looking to add another midfielder to their squad and have been linked with Liverpool's Lucas Leiva, Tottenham's Sandro and Manchester United's Marouane Fellaini.



However, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Benitez is determined to see if Khedira can be tempted to Italy first, as capturing the 27-year-old would delight the former Liverpool manager.

Khedira, who has been consistently linked with Arsenal throughout the summer, was absent for Real Madrid's Spanish Supercup second leg against Atletico Madrid last night.

 


The midfielder had been included in coach Carlo Ancelotti's initial 22-man group for the game, but was excused from duty by the Italian.

Rather than watch his team-mates in action, Khedira jetted to Germany to watch his brother's Red Bull Leipzig side play in the 2. Bundesliga.

Khedira has refused to extend a contract which expires in 2015 and Ancelotti has admitted the midfielder is looking for the exit door this summer.

Bayern Munich and Fiorentina are also tracking the former Stuttgart man.
