Emre Can has insisted Liverpool will be heading to Manchester City on Monday evening aiming to beat the Citizens and return home with three points.

Both sides won their opening games, with Liverpool beating Southampton 2-1 at Anfield, while Manchester City clocked up a comfortable 2-0 victory away at Newcastle.

At least one club will have their 100 per cent record prevented from being carried into the third Premier League matchday, but Can believes there is every reason to believe Liverpool will not be that team.

"I am looking forward to this match, last season's first against second", the German midfielder told his club's site.

"I'm sure it will be a big match. We won the first match and to win the second is also important.

"I think all of our players can go into that second match confidently, having won our first match.

"We all have a great deal of self-belief and we can go into that match to win it."

Can joined Liverpool earlier this summer after the Reds activated a €12m release clause in his contract at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
