Memphis Depay has revealed he fielded a lot of interest this summer, before eventually deciding to sign a new contract at PSV Eindhoven.

The winger starred for the Netherlands at the World Cup and was soon linked with English giants Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, PSV dipped into money allocated to sign another forward to convince Depay to put pen to paper on a fresh deal running until 2018.

And Depay has revealed he chose to remain in his homeland because he wants to help PSV win the Eredivisie title before heading to pastures new abroad.

"There was plenty of interest", the 20-year-old told the Algemeen Dagblad.

"Many had expected that I would leave. There was much talk around me, but I listened to my gut and decided to stay at PSV.

"I've only been one season in the squad, that's pretty much it actually.

"I've still not become a champion in the Netherlands and that for me is a must. I've been playing for PSV for a long time and it feels like home here. This is important."

Depay has continued his fine form from the World Cup in the new season, scoring five goals for PSV in his first three games for the Eindhoven-based club.
