Bayern Munich are in negotiations with Roma over the signing of Mehdi Benatia and a breakthrough is expected today.

The Moroccan defender’s future at the Giallorossi has been a source of constant speculation and a number of top European clubs have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old.

The Premier League trio of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all been linked with making a bid for Benatia this summer.

However, Bayern Munich are believed to be leading the race to secure the defender’s signature after their technical director headed to Rome.

The Bavarians are in advanced negotiations with the Giallorossi and a breakthrough in talks is expected today, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Roma are demanding around €30m for the defender and a number of details of the transfer are still to be agreed upon.

Benatia slated Roma officials earlier this summer for broken promises and said that he deserves a better pay package in line with his contributions last season.

The Moroccan’s wish might come true as he is expected to receive a fatter pay package at Bayern Munich if the transfer is eventually completed.
