Dutch Eredivisie side FC Utrecht are closing in on the loan signing of Liverpool starlet Kristoffer Peterson.

The 19-year-old winger-cum-striker spent time on loan at Tranmere Rovers last term, while Liverpool also handed him a new contract in January this year in a sign of their growing confidence about Peterson's future at the club.

Now the Sweden Under-21 international is poised to continue his development in Holland's top flight with Utrecht.

Speaking about Petersen, Utrecht coach Rob Alflen dubbed him "a right winger who can also play on the left."

He also explained to the Algemeen Dagblad: "I've seen him work as a striker, but then you put too much on him.

"On the flanks he is threatening, he has power and he is definitely a good one."

Utrecht have already reached an outline agreement with Liverpool to loan Peterson, but must complete a number of final details before the move can be pushed through.

The Dutch club have won two of their opening three games of the new Eredivisie season.
