Danilo Avelar has ended any doubt over his future by penning a new contract with Serie A club Cagliari.

Avelar came within a whisker of joining Massimo Cellino's Leeds United in January this year, while there was then talk of the Whites rekindling their interest in the defender this summer.

But the 25-year-old, who can also operate in midfield, has opted to continue his stay in Italy.

Avelar's new contract with Cagliari is due to run until the summer of 2017.

The Brazilian linked up with Cagliari, initially on loan, in 2012, before the Rossoblu made his move permanent.
