Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny said that Arsenal had no option but to fight back against Everton on Saturday.

The Gunners scored two late goals to earn a point at Goodison Park after Everton scored two first-half goals to lead 2-0 heading into the break.

“In the end it is probably a good result because with 15 minutes to go everyone thought we had lost it”, Szczesny told Arsenal Player.

The Pole admits that the Gunners were disappointing in the first half at Goodison Park, but lauded the team’s character to fight back during the latter stages of the game.

“It was a disappointing first half and we conceded two soft goals, which is not good, but we showed great character to come back and get a result."

Arsenal lost 3-0 to Everton at Goodison Park in April and Szczesny said that the Gunners were desperate not to repeat the result on Saturday, which led to their fightback late in the game.

“It would have been very disappointing if we had come here and lost again without putting up a fight – so we had no choice in the second half.

“We came out and pressed them high and got the two goals.”
