Bayern Munich are rapidly closing in on the signing of centre-back Mehdi Benatia from Roma after bidding €30m for the player.

The Bavarians, who have been chasing the defender along with Chelsea and Manchester United, were reluctant to pay a straight €30m to Roma for Benatia.

However, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, a compromise has been reached, with the Bundesliga champions agreeing to pay Roma €26m plus a further €4m in potential bonus payments.

Benatia has been angling to leave Roma this summer after becoming unhappy at his pay packet in the Italian capital.

He played a key role for Roma last term in helping the club finish second in Serie A and was vocal about his desire to be rewarded.
