Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner has joined Championship outfit Brighton & Hove Albion on loan until January 2015.

Having joined the Claret and Blues as youth player in 2005, the midfielder progressed through the ranks at the club and finally earned his senior debut in 2011.

He has managed a total of 18 appearances for the Villans since then, having also been sent out on loan on two occasions to Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday.

"He will give us another quality option in the middle of the park", Brighton manager Sami Hyypia told his club's official site.

"Gary has had a tough couple of seasons due to injury, but he showed during a spell with Sheffield Wednesday last season that he is over those problems.

"He is the type of midfielder who is active and mobile, but very importantly he has real quality on the ball."

The former Bayer Leverkusen manager further insisted on the fact that given the competitive nature in the Championship, he needs to add more depth to his squad and Gardner will serve as another option.

"Given the considerable demands of the Championship, I want to be able to rotate the squad.

"We hope this loan spell will benefit everyone: Gary, us and Aston Villa."
