Rafael Benitez has persuaded Lucas Leiva to move to Italy before the transfer window closes, but the Spaniard's Napoli side must still reach an agreement with Liverpool over the midfielder.

Napoli have been chasing a midfielder for much of the summer and have held an interest in Manchester United's Marouane Fellaini and Tottenham Hotspur's Sandro.

But Lucas has jumped to the front of the queue for last term's Coppa Italia winners.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Benitez has held several conversations with Lucas, finally persuading the midfielder to agree to move to Napoli.

However, Napoli must now tackle the thorny issue of doing a deal with Liverpool for the Brazilian.
