AS Roma are on the verge of signing Arsenal target and Greek international defender Kostas Manolas from Olympiacos.

Manolas, who still has two years left on his contract with the Greek outfit, has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer. Indeed, it was even claimed in the British media last week that he was undergoing a medical with the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger ran the rule over the 23-year-old central defender at the World Cup and was keen to add him to the Arsenal squad to bolster his defensive options.

However, Roma have made a quick swoop for the defender while Wenger dithered and the Italians have already agreed a deal with Olympiacos.

Manolas arrived at Roma’s Fiumincino airport from Athens this morning and will undergo a medical later today, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport.

The Giallorossi will fork out a transfer fee of around €13m for the highly-rated defender and the formalities of the transfer are expected to be completed today.

Manolas made 25 league appearances for Olympiacos last season and also featured in seven Champions League games for the Greek outfit.

He has also earned 12 international caps for Greece and made four appearances for the Greeks in the World Cup.
