AC Milan midfielder Andrea Poli insists that his team have to prove that they are tough, even if they are unable to recruit any more players this summer.

The Rossoneri have just lost striker Mario Balotelli to Premier League giants Liverpool and are yet to find a suitable replacement for him.

However, the 24-year-old is confident about the spirit existing in the team and stressed the importance of becoming more "compact and tough."

"I think the spirit of the team is fundamental, trying to be compact and tough", Poli told his club's official site.

"If the club do bring in players that will help, but otherwise this Milan team is tough and we have to show that."

The Italian international also took time to add that a strong belief in hard work and a desire to excel is going to be crucial for his team to have a successful domestic season this year, insisting that they have already started working on that front.

"I believe in hard work and the desire to do well and on that front we have started well."

AC Milan take on Lazio at the San Siro on 31st August to kick off their domestic campaign.
