Ronny Deila admits that Celtic are just not good enough to play in this season’s Champions League.

The Hoops suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of NK Maribor at home last night which meant that the Slovenian champions are through to the group stage of the Champions League with an aggregate scoreline of 2-1.

Deila said that Maribor were the more effective team and made the most of the chances they created.

“They got two chances during the game and they were more effective than us”, the Norwegian told the club’s official site.

The 39-year-old conceded that the Champions League qualifiers have proved that Celtic are not good enough to be in Europe’s elite club competition this season.

“But in the end there is only one thing to say and that is we weren’t good enough and we didn’t deserve to go to the Champions League.”

Although, Celtic gave a better account of themselves in the second half, Deila admits that his players failed to handle the pressure of the big occasion.

“The pressure was too little and there was not enough aggression, but in the second half we were more aggressive and we got some chances as well and it was an even game.”
