Angel di Maria has indicated in his farewell address to the Real Madrid fans that he was forced to leave the European champions, but said that he wants to progress at Manchester United.

The Red Devils paid a British record transfer fee of £59.7m to Real Madrid to acquire the services of the Argentine winger yesterday and he signed a five-year deal.

"Unfortunately today [Tuesday] I have to go, but I want to make clear that this was never my desire”, Di Maria wrote in a farewell letter to the Real Madrid fans.

The former Benfica man claimed that he was expecting Los Blancos to offer fairer terms to him in line with the Argentine’s contribution last season and said a lot of lies were told about him.

He further added that he knows that the club are trying to pin the blame on him for the transfer to Manchester United, but said that was never the case.
