AC Milan have been dealt a blow in their bid to sign Marco van Ginkel on loan from Chelsea, after the player expressed his wish to remain at Stamford Bridge.

The Rossoneri contacted Chelsea to ask to take Van Ginkel on a season-long loan and the Blues were open to the idea.

However, according to Sky Italia, Van Ginkel has informed Chelsea he does not wish to join Milan.

The midfielder wants to remain in England, having joined Chelsea only last summer from Vitesse.

Chelsea may now look to loan the Dutchman within the Premier League before the transfer window closes, in a bid to hand him regular first team football this term.

Van Ginkel suffered a serious knee injury last season and missed the majority of the campaign.

He had been snapped up by Vitesse and was viewed in some quarters as a successor to Frank Lampard.
