Manchester United legend Gary Pallister is highly optimistic about record signing Angel di Maria’s future at the club.

The former defender has tipped the Argentine to add a new aspect to the current side, which slumped to a shocking 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat to League One outfit MK Dons last night.

Di Maria signed a five-year £59.7m deal with Manchester United from Real Madrid yesterday, making it the highest fee ever paid by an English team.

“He’s an incisive player with plenty of pace which is something that we’ve maybe have been lacking”, Pallister told the club’s site.

“We’ve brought in a creative player that possesses boundless amounts of energy, so I think he’s someone that is going to excite the fans."

Pallister’s transfer to Manchester United from Middlesbrough in 1989 broke the national record for a fee spent on a defender. The former defender also praised the Argentinian for his versatility in his game.

"In the past Di Maria has played on the right, the left and on the left of a midfield three”, the ex-defender added.

“He’s clearly a very versatile player and as the manager says he’s a team player. He won’t spit the dummy out if he’s asked to play here there or wherever, you’re going to get 100% from him whenever he puts the shirt on."

Di Maria had a stellar 2013/14 season with Real Madrid, guiding the club to their 10th Champions League trophy.
