Tottenham Hotspur defender Ryan Fredericks has joined Championship outfit Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old finalised the move on Thursday after the formalities were completed between the two clubs.

Fredericks started his career as a youth player with the Lilywhites in 2008, being promoted to the senior team in 2011.

However, he failed to manage any senior appearance for the Tottenham side, being sent out on loan to Brentford in 2012.

He spent the latter half of the 2013/14 season at Championship side Millwall for whom he played a total of 14 league matches scoring a single goal.

“Ryan is a good lad, which is the most important thing for me when signing a player”, Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka told his club's official site.

“When I bring players in, I always check what they are like as a person because it’s important for me to have a good atmosphere in the changing room.

“Ryan is a player who can help us going forward because he’s a defender with an attacking mentality.

“He can learn a lot with us. We’re going to try and help him develop his defending positioning because he’s young and aggressive and likes to go forward.”
