Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has dubbed the current period "strange" and explained he is working hard to keep the club's squad together, including Manchester United target Daley Blind.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with making a move to sign Blind before the transfer window slams shut, but so far no bid has landed on Ajax's table.

Overmars accepts that is a situation which could quickly change in the current climate, though he is crossing his fingers that the defender stays put.

And if that happens, Overmars feels he will have achieved his goal for the summer.

"These are actually very strange days", he told NOS.

"Nothing happens throughout the month until the last week.

"It could be that tomorrow [Friday, ed] something happens", the Ajax supremo continued.

"Basically we said, we have a very strong team. I think even better than the last few years.

"Our goal really is to keep the team together.

"So we don't want to lose Daley.

"Then [if we don’t] we will have succeeded in our goal", Overmars concluded.

Blind is known to be highly rated by Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, who coached the defender with the Netherlands at this summer's World Cup.

Ajax are hoping Van Gaal does not make good on his interest however.
