Chelsea have moved quickly to plug the gap created by loaning Fernando Torres to AC Milan by swooping for QPR striker Loic Remy.

The Blues confirmed earlier this evening that Torres is heading to AC Milan on a two-year loan deal, effectively ending his Chelsea career.

Boss Jose Mourinho explained at his press conference this afternoon that he feels he needs his compliment of strikers and Torres' departure is quickly being covered.

According to Sky Italia, Chelsea have reached an agreement with Remy and will pay the release clause in his contract at QPR.

The clause, which is thought to be between £8.5m and £10m, only applies to clubs playing in the Champions League.

Remy had been on the verge of joining Liverpool earlier this summer, but complications uncovered after the Frenchman's medical led the Reds to put a stop to the switch.

He spent last term on loan at Newcastle and scored 14 times in the Premier League.
