The game of poker being played between Juventus and Manchester United has gone up a notch after the Italian side knocked back a bid from the English giants for Arturo Vidal.

Manchester United have been chasing Vidal for much of the summer and as the transfer window approaches its climax are stepping up their efforts to capture the Chile international.

According to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United have seen Juventus knock back a bid of €43m for Vidal, upping the ante.

Juventus fully expect Manchester United to return with an improved offer before the transfer window slams shut, but have publicly continued to adopt a no-sale stance. Earlier today, coach Massimiliano Allegri said of Vidal: "We have reiterated several times, both the management and myself, that Vidal is a fundamental player and he will stay at Juventus."

The Red Devils have just smashed the British transfer record by paying Real Madrid £59.7m for winger Angel di Maria and Juventus believe the club's appetite for Vidal will see an increased bid made soon.
