Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers feels the club's fans will play a vital role in their Champions League campaign this season.

The Reds, who finished second in the Premier League last term, have been drawn in Group B with European champions Real Madrid, Swiss giants FC Basel and Bulgarian outfit Ludogorets Razgrad.

And on a return to Champions League football for the first time since the 2009/10 season, Rodgers believes the backing Liverpool receive from their fans could be a crucial factor in helping towards their goal of qualifying from the group.

"I'll be very proud but more proud for the players and the supporters, for what they have put into us arriving there", the manager told his club's site.

Rodgers continued: "They will be critical and they are going to be key for us throughout the league campaign and the Champions League campaign. The nights at Anfield are really special.
